One of the major reasons why the poor in the country do not get to avail the services provided to them is because of the lack of resources. And one of the main reasons for resources not reaching them is bad roadways.
In order to literally bridge the gap between the urban and the rural areas of the country, the Government of India launched the Setu Bharatam program on the 4th of March 2016.
The budget of the Programme
As per the latest estimates, the Setu Bharatam program would cost somewhere around ₹102 billion.
Main objectives of the Programme
The main objectives of the program stand to be the construction of National Highways which would be absolutely free of railway crossings by 2019. This project is to be implemented by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The scope of work proves to be humongous as there are 208 places across the country that has been identified for the construction of rail over-bridges. There are around 1500 bridges that are over 50-60 years old and some even date all the way back to the British era.
These bridges have a higher likeliness of collapsing and the Government aims to take evasive actions in the form of reconstructing those bridges before the inevitable happens.

In an attempt to restructure the roads of India, the Government of India under the guidance of PM Modi has undertaken an ambitious project. The project is currently underway as national roads are being built at breakneck speeds across the nation.
